Our Services - Innovative Community Action Networks (ICAN)

ICAN is an acronym for 'Innovative Community Action Networks' and is a local community partnership model that works collaboratively with schools and community partners to ensure young people aged Year 6 to 19 have access to meaningful learning and support pathways to further education, training and employment opportunities so they can reach their full potential.

Centacare’s ICAN programs achieve this through provision of customised and innovative learning programs, individual and small group case management, and mentoring for young people.  Many of these young people will be enrolled in DECS' primary and secondary schools within an ICAN supported flexible learning option enrolment (FLO).   Centacare currently provides accredited learning programs in Murray Bridge, Morphett Vale and Blair Athol.  Programs are successfully engaging young women who are pregnant and parenting and young people with complex issues who have not engaged with mainstream schooling for some time.

ELIGIBILITY
Years 6-19 years of age with an exemption of up to 25 years of age for young women who are pregnant or parenting.

REFERRAL
Targeted DECS schools and ICAN Program Managers refer a significant number of young people. Community organisations and government agencies eg Families SA can also refer (criteria apply). Referrals can be made by contacting ICAN Services at Centacare, 252 Port Road, Hindmarsh on (08) 8241 7022.

WHERE ARE WE?
ICAN currently provides case management and learning programs in a number of locations.  Staff operate out of Elizabeth, Fullarton, Hindmarsh, Murray Bridge and the Riverland.  Staff outreach to schools and sites across these regions.
