May 6, 2018

To priests, deacons, religious brothers and sisters, pastoral associates and diocesan offices and agencies

Dear sisters and brothers

I write on behalf of Archbishop Wilson, with great sadness, to inform you that Archbishop Emeritus Leonard Faulkner died this afternoon, Sunday May 6, 2018.

He died peacefully in his room at The Pines at around 1.30pm in the presence of family, friends and clergy.

He was a beloved priest and Archbishop of Adelaide and Bishop of Townsville, and a dedicated and loving pastor. We grieve his death deeply, but we also give thanks for his life and his outstanding service to the gospel and to all of us whom he led.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the friends and people who loved him.

Archbishop Wilson has asked clergy, religious and people of the Archdiocese to pray for the repose of his soul.

Funeral details are not available at this time, but will be communicated once they are known.

May He Rest in Peace.

Yours sincerely
Fr Philip Marshall
Vicar General
