NATIONAL APOLOGY TO THE STOLEN GENERATIONS

On Friday 12th February, Centacare at Seaton celebrated the 2nd Anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations. About 50 Centacare employees and some specially invited community guests attended the event.  We all found it a great opportunity to revisit the journey which had been undertaken for Australia's First Nations, a time to reflect, remember and to be inspired to commit to the ongoing healing of our communities.

Second Anniversary of the National Apology

Guest speakers were, Uncle Brian Butler (well respected Elder) and Centacare's very own Christine Jacques (Aboriginal Consultant) both sharing some of their experiences, also those that attended were privileged to hear some original songs from Fringe and Feast performer Pascoe Braun, highlighting his personal experiences and the Stolen Generation.

Over 150 students representing 15 schools, each competed in 5 touch rugby games. This event was the culmination of the previous  3 months of Ross and Tui’s  Student Matters “Nunga Group Work” program.

The “Nunga Group Work” program aims to reconnect and maintain Indigenous youth at school, and build in them, a positive determination to succeed in life through education. Maintaining education and connection to the school community is an early intervention approach to avoiding a path to homelessness.
