Centacare’s Integrated Youth Substance Misuse Specialist Service (IYSMSS) provides an integrated model of care for young people aged 12-24 years with issues around substance misuse.

In response to COVID-19, some changes have been made to IYSMSS to support the safety, health and wellbeing of our clients and staff.

In line with current advice, IYSMSS is providing the following supports:

  • Outreach AOD phone-based counselling for young people aged 12 to 24 years
  • Sobering Up Service at Alban Place, Stepney, for young people aged 12 to 24 years if they do not have flu-like symptoms such as a fever, coughing, sore throat, fatigue or shortness of breath.
  • Residential Service for young people aged 12 to 24 years of age. Individual and group counselling is ongoing.

Residential Rehabilitation

In our five-bed residential rehabilitation service, we focus on providing a safe environment for young people to gain knowledge and skills to reduce the impact of their drug and alcohol use. During the six to eight weeks strength-based program, young people participate in therapeutic groups and life skills training to improve their quality of life. Recovery goals and individual counselling are also provided to support family relationships and connection to appropriate services to enhance opportunities within their community.

Sobering up Services

One sobering up bed is available 24/7 at our Stepney location for young people to sober up in a safe and supported environment.

Drug and Alcohol Counselling

In addition, IYSMSS provides a range of outreach support at a number of Centacare offices for young people and their families, prior to and post-residence.

Please refer to our brochure for more information.
