There are over 4800 children in South Australia who are currently in care, and this number increases daily.
About 780 children need family-based home environments. This means that many children are waiting for a stable and supportive family to provide them with stability, care and nurture. Foster carers can have a lasting impact on a child’s life by offering them support, care and guidance during a difficult time.
Foster carers play a crucial and important role in supporting and caring for children when they have experienced grief, loss and separation from their families. Currently, in South Australia, there is a shortage of foster carers across all types of care, particularly for immediate, short-term and specialist care.
We are also seeking foster carers who are able to support the planned process of returning children to the care of their birth families and those that can provide care to children living with a disability or sibling groups.
Whether this is your first time thinking about foster care or you have pondered about it for a while, we would welcome a friendly conversation to share more about how you can become a foster carer with Centacare.
