We offer free, voluntary and individualised support for people of any age who are interested in addressing and making changes to their alcohol and/or other drug use.

About our service

Our work is guided by the goals and desired outcomes set by the individual. Office appointments are held at 45 Wakefield St, Adelaide during normal business hours.

This service is funded by SA Health through Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia.

Our supports

We provide:

  • ongoing individualised counselling,
  • tools for harm reduction and relapse prevention,
  • education,
  • information,
  • connection to other services as appropriate.

Police Drug Diversion Initiative

Centacare Drug and Alcohol Counselling also operate the Police Drug Diversion Initiative (PDDI). The PDDI is a health intervention under the Controlled Substances Act 1984 (the Act) that makes it mandatory for SA Police to divert adults detected for simple possession drug offences away from the criminal justice system and into a health assessment. Its aim is to provide individuals with the opportunity to address their drug use through health services and reduce the number of people appearing before the courts for use or possession of illicit drugs offences.

The PDDI diverts people detected by police for simple possession of illicit drugs to a health intervention, rather than process them through the criminal justice system.

The PDDI can only be accessed by individuals who have been diverted for a health intervention by the South Australian Police.

Eligibility

Our service is for people for all ages and backgrounds who are interested in addressing their alcohol and/or other drug concerns in the Adelaide metropolitan area.

Referrals

We accept:

  • self-referrals,
  • referrals from health services such as GPs, Drug and Alcohol Services SA (DASSA), Alcohol and Drug Information Service (ADIS), family members and other support agencies.
